Nice work. The format of collecting various, related topics into a single book was very
interesting. It allows the reader to pick up the book and select any topic from the index
and spend as little or as much time as s/he wishes.
I am enjoying bouncing around from topic to topic without worrying about losing my
place in the story.
Makes for a neat quick read as time allows.

In Meditations of a Modern Warrior Vol II, Paul Higgins once again draws on his many years of
experience to lay out straight forward information for both the EP/CP Professional as well as
protection minded civilians.
The book itself is a quick and easy read, but that doesn't take anything away from the quality
of the contents. It is not just another typical "how to" manual but a uniquely thought provoking
book that covers a variety of practical topics-from fitness considerations and training to real
world security threats applicable to every day civilian life.
He doesn't just tell you what to do in various situations, but also explains why its important.
Paul makes you consider things you've (probably) never thought about in regard to protecting
yourself, your family or your clients.
It's most certainly an insightful and motivating read.

Whether novice, expert-in-training or professional in the personal defence world, Meditations
of a Modern Warrior 2 is sure to have information pertinent to each category of reader. The
thought-provoking chapters provide a road map of what's needed to be a more alert, more
prepared person in today's world. I particularly like the fact that the reader can take the
information in this book and put it into context for their own life / situation creating their own
personal defence plan. Great read, great reference.

For anyone who has an interest in matters of combat, then Paul Higgins' latest book
Meditations of a Modern Warrior' is not to be missed. This is volume 2 and ranges
over a number of related topics, principally from the perspective of close protection
(Bodyguarding) operations.
It is less about the tactics of one-to-one, H2H combat and far more about the very detailed
concepts of close combat, but from a more threatening perspective than the typical man/
woman in the street will face in the street in the UK. That having been said, all the combat
concepts and strategic models that Paul outlines are as relevant to the more benign arenas
than just third world, threatening environments.
A great deal of the book revolves around the protective functioning when armed with personal
defensive weapons, but again, the detail on this and key principles cross-cuts the average
conflict with a range of aggressors. Fitness for combat, for example, that Paul discusses is a
'cross-cutter' and is blind to whether the purpose is to be combat ready for a CP detail in
Afghanistan or fit to defend against a mugger in Manchester.
'Meditations' is a first class book and will hold anyone's interest - it's difficult to put down once you've
started it and has some great illustrations and photographs that get complex points across. Paul
having a foot in both worlds of defensive tactics and corporate security backs up the concepts of
combat with huge personal experience.
S O. Maritime & Close Protection Operator/Instructor
The book is very comprehensive, providing valid and expert perspective and opinions on serious
issues facing the civilian, military/police and private security contractor.

Great Stuff, Highly Recommended.
Several weeks ago Paul Higgins-a military combat veteran and current executive protection professional-was kind enough to send me a review copy of his newest book 'Meditations of a Modern Warrior, Volume II.' I'd much enjoyed volume I, and looked forward to mining Paul's insights in this follow-on book. I was not disappointed.
Like the first volume, this book is arranged as a series of concise 3-5 page chapters. each of the more than 40 chapters concentrates upon a particular practical/tactical issue relevant to both self-defense and defense of others (one of Paul's current areas of professional expertise being Executive Protection). Paul also addresses scenarios of both armed and unarmed defensive force, including active shooter and mob violence scenarios.
Despite-or perhaps because of-their brevity, each chapter is both thoughtful and thought provoking, and highly concentrated. indeed, a wise way to read the book would be at the pace of a single brief chapter a day, allowing you time to think through the practical (and tactical) implications of each.
while all of the book's chapters are very relevant to the effective use of defensive force, a few in particular resonated with my own views and areas of concern (my own expertise being the laws that govern the use of force in defense of persons and property). I'll touch upon a few of those briefly here.
I am, of course, doing much paraphrasing in this review, placing Paul's insights into my own relevant context, in my own words. After all, that's how i've absorbed them and thus will apply them. Naturally I claim nothing like Paul's expertise-for the real 'gold' get the book and absorb his insights into your own relevant contex.

Thoroughly recommend Paul 'Rock' Higgins books. Expert knowledge well presented and all very relevant in the current climate. Well worth a read for anyone involved in the sheepdog business. Thank you Paul.
Anthony Cirino - Security Professional
Paul Higgins Book, Meditations of a Modern Warrior Vol 2, takes some of the things I have learned as a security professional and refreshes them in an entertaining and thought provoking manner.
Things like physical health and special awareness that experienced security personnel may take for granted, are reviewed by Mr Higgins as he reminds us that nothing is routine and staying sharp is a must.
Paul 'Rock' Higgins debunks the myth that the old ways are always the correct ways, giving the reader vital information while at the same time leaving enough room to realise that humility, further education and constant training are a vital part of becoming part of the elite in the security industry.
Paul 'Rock' Higgins touches on subjects that affect our modern society such as active shooters and terrorism. Rock gives us the keys to take our training to the next level whether you are a civilian or security professional and most importantly he reminds us to stay ready, stay aware and stay dangerous.

Meditations of a Modern Warrior.

ON THE BACK COVER
In today's often violent world, accepting the warrior path as a way of life is not the prerogative of the modern soldier. We now have warriors in every walk of life, civilian warriors, law enforcement warriors, executive protection warriors and of course, military warriors. This first volume gives insight into how being a modern warrior impacts our everyday life, how we live through physical and mental conditioning, awareness of personal, mobile and home security for example. The chapters not only supply the reader with information but require the reader to continually question themselves as they journey along the warrior path.

SOME BOOK REVIEWS

I had the pleasure tonight of reading Paul "Rock" Higgins book, Meditations of a Modern Warrior.
I found it to be not only a fast enjoyable read but also a comprehensive, thorough and obviously written by someone that knows his craft and has a well developed skill set. Rock takes the reader on a crash course in what has become uncommon. That is Common Sense. He provides you with information that may very well if not save your life in this business it will most likely save you from some bruises or abrasions. He has addressed just about every risk you may face from minimizing a frontal attack to how long it takes to bleed out from a carotid artery laceration, IED's, weapons training and hostage survival.
I will be adding this book to our mandatory reading list for all of our protective agents. You can find more information on the book and on Rock at www.vipatacticaltraining.com.
Thank you Paul for the valuable information and for your taking the time to share it with all of us out here that risk our lives to protect others.
I highly recommend that you all read this book. I am sure that no matter what your experience level you will find some new information to make you more proficient in your job.
Self Defence in Real Life
I am waiting for my copy of Paul 'Rock' Higgins book, Meditations of a Modern Warrior. Paul does just not talk or write about being a warrior, he is one. He lets you know they are not out of date. He will define and outline what is necessary to be a warrior, to be ready for the enemy or attacker,to win and survive. I have known Paul for a few years now through security consulting contacts. I have read some of his security, protection and defence writings. Paul makes a practical science out of every subject he addresses. He tears a subject down to the bare bones so you see every aspect. This guy is not superficial, if he talks or writes about something, he knows it, he has been there. he has trained people who are still there, on the wall, on guard, at the ready to do what is necessary to protect and save lives. Paul does not pull punches, he is a realist and puts out straight forward information from experience. He does not just teach, he shares, real life stuff. If you want to look good and sound good fluff, do not buy this book. If you want a realistic and detailed perspective from a security and protection professional, he is your guy. Can't wait to get my copy of Meditations of a Modern Warrior by Paul 'Rock' Higgins - A Warrior.

Meditations of a Modern Warrior delivers a more in-depth understanding into the mental aspect of personal safety. Combining the practical and mental elements of training, we therefore should always be aware and prepared for any situations that may arise.
I recommend this book to anyone that would like to develop or refresh their mind in he art of combat, self defence and personal protection. It is also an excellent read for anyone that has a high regard for their personal safety and for their loved ones.
Colin Morgan Director Quest Protection / CPO
This author obviously reeks of experience in the close protection/martial arts/combat world, handing out, via this first book (this is the first book I can find written by this author anyway) a hands-on, nose to the ground, practical thoughts/ideas/practices that are totally applicable to the modern day security operator and martial artist alike. From civvie-street to high hostile environment this book has some great advice that is sure to enhance anyone's ideas in the protection world. At last someone who has done it and got the T-shirt and is now sharing his experiences with others. It is always great to have someone pass on and sincerely share a massive amount of knowledge. Mr Higgins is a real modern warrior and has written a great first book. Recommended.
Ed Hollis - Advanced Executive Protection / Close Protection Operative
I would rank this book up there with Col. Jeff Cooper who gave us the colour codes. This book for me was a great read. I enjoyed reading about the methodology, mentality and the preparation for the modern warrior to do his job. This is in fact for the modern warrior. I finished the book in a couple of days time. Very interesting and would recommend it to others without a doubt.
Golden Goddess
A brilliant book by a great warrior who's "vast" experience is shared in this little masterpiece. Everyone can gain from reading this excellent book. I totally agree with everything the reviewer Colin Morgan states in his review. This is a "must read" book.
The follow up book two is now available. It is equally brilliant.
Tony Ansell MSyl, MCIPR
In this uncomplicated and wide ranging compilation of practical advice and guidance, Paul Higgins successfully combines his professional philosophy, experience and expertise to re-inforce the core issues involved in personal protection. I have no doubt that it will be of particular use to entry level personal protection practitioners as well as those outside the industry seeking to improve their awareness of personal security.
